Cyber Terrorism can be defined as activities done with the intention to threaten unity, integrity, security or sovereignty of a country or terrorize people or sections of people by way of
- Unauthorized access
- Denying legitimate access/ service
- Disrupting services
- Damage critical information infrastructure etc.
What is cyber warfare?
Cyber Warfare is defined as actions by one nation to
- Intrude
- Spy
- Disrupt
- Destroy critical infrastructure or persons belong to another nation
It can involve state and non-state actors. In some ways it is an extension of cyber terrorism on a larger scale involving governments and nations as perpetrators and victims.
What are the threats?
Cyber terrorism involves acts of damaging critical systems at large. We are so dependent on these computer controlled and remotely operated systems that shutting down services like the electricity grid, telephones, internet and mobiles will literally cripple our day to day existence.
What are the risks?
Acts of terrorism may cause economic disruption by way of damaging the
- Financial sector
- Public infrastructure
- Critical information
All of these include loss of life and property as well.
